DA files motion for a continuance By News4 The Eagle County District Attorney's office has filed a motion for a continuance in the Kobe Bryant criminal trial.
The district attorney's action means the Bryant criminal trial is off for the time being, CBS 4 in Denver reports.
On Tuesday the woman accusing the NBA star of rape filed a civil lawsuit against him in federal court, a move legal experts said would possibly cripple the criminal case.
The criminal trial was scheduled to start in less than three weeks. Jury selection was set to begin on Aug. 27.
Bryant 25, has pleaded not guilty to felony sexual assault. He has said he had consensual sex with the woman, then 19, at the Vail-area resort where she worked last summer. The Los Angeles Lakers star faces four years to life in prison or 20 years to life on probation, and a fine of up to $750,000 if convicted.
